Common Issue
On a brand-new M&E scissor lift, the hydraulic pump runs when pressing UP, but:
●The platform does not move or
●The platform rises a few inches and stops
This is normal on first startup and does not indicate a defective lift.
Why This Happens
During shipping and assembly, air can become trapped inside the hydraulic cylinders.
This “air lock” prevents the cylinders from extending fully until the air is released.
Step 1 — Release the Platform Using a Floor Jack
This is the quickest and most common fix.
●Use a floor jack and find a solid, safe lifting point on the platform
●Apply gentle upward pressure while pressing UP
●The added force helps the cylinders break free
✅ Once released, the lift should operate normally going forward
⚠️ Use caution and lift only as needed
If this does not work, continue to Step 2.
Step 2 — Bleed Air from the Hydraulic Pump
This removes trapped air from the system.
1.Open the control panel
2.Locate the large hex bleed bolt on the front of the hydraulic pump (Type of bleeder valve may vary, location will always be on the front of the pump.)
3.Loosen the bolt slightly (do not remove it)
4.Press UP while the bolt is loosened
5.Watch for oil:
○Air + oil = system still bleeding
○Smooth, steady oil flow = air removed
6.Tighten the bolt securely
✅ The lift should now rise normally
Still Not Moving?
