Overview
Calibration ensures your Katool wheel balancer provides accurate and consistent balance readings. Your new wheel balancer is calibrated from the factory however, over time, additional transportation, temperature changes, sensor drift, or heavy usage may cause inaccuracies. Calibration realigns the internal sensors with known reference values.
When to Calibrate
- After the machine has been moved or disturbed
- If balance readings are inconsistent
- If vibration persists after balancing
- Part of regular periodic maintenance procedure
What You Will Need
- A clean wheel (preferably 14", 15" or 16") mounted correctly on the balancer
- Correct calibration weight (100g / 3.5 oz)
- Proper cones or adapters for the wheel
Calibration Procedure
- Mount wheel/tire to machine and enter the A value and D value using the pull ruler.
- Enter the B value (wheel width).
- Hold down the F button then C button (F & R for B795L). The display should read "CAL CAL" on both readout screens.
- Press the start button. After the tire spins, the outside display will show 100 or 3.50. Find the outside point and place a 100g (3.5 oz) lead weight directly above the 12 o’clock position.
- Press the start button. After the tire spins, the inside display will show 100 or 3.50. Remove the 100g (3.5 oz) lead weight from the outside.
- Find the inside point and place a 100g (3.5 oz) lead weight directly above the 12 o’clock position on the inside. Press the start button.
- The display should read "CAL END" on both sides.
- Calibration is now complete.

Verifying Calibration
After calibration, balance a wheel normally, remove the weights, and re-spin the wheel. If minimal or no correction is required, calibration was successful.
Common Calibration Issues and Fixes
Calibration will not complete
- Ensure the wheel is mounted squarely, the shaft and cones are clean, and the correct calibration weight is being used
Inconsistent readings after calibration
- Check for damaged or worn cones, bent shaft, or loose adapters. Calibration will not correct mechanical defects
Machine requests excessive weight
- Verify wheel mounting, remove old adhesive residue, and repeat calibration
Calibration repeatedly fails
- Power cycle the machine, allow it to stabilize, and attempt calibration again. If the issue persists, contact Katool Technical Support
